The original SONORLITE was introduced in 1983 and emerged from the lightweight shell version of the SONOR Signature series. Sound and technical perfection are therefore paradigms. By using a significantly thinner and lighter shell with the same strong shell construction in combination with slightly lower shell depths, the SONORLITE has been far superior to the heavy SONOR Signatures have been far superior. This made it the ultimate premium drum set for the professional touring musician of its time.

The original SONORLITE used two different shell designs. A 12-ply (7mm) shell was used for bass and snare drums and a 9-ply (6mm) shell for toms and floor toms. All shells were made from selected Finnish birch, which has similar mechanical properties to German beech German beech but with a much lower weight. The result is a
mechanically stable and lightweight shell construction that allows the drumheads to vibrate unhindered resulting in a pure, full and open sound with plenty of resonance.

This 150th Anniversary SONORLITE Shell Set is more than just a reissue of the original from the 1980s. It is a tribute that combines tradition and innovation by combining a replica of the SONORLITE shell with modern hardware features. To faithfully reproduce the iconic SONORLITE shells, 9 or 12 layers of selected Finnish birch veneer are cross-laminated. Stunningly grained Scandinavian birch (Betula alba) is used for the outer and inner layers of the kettles. In order to emphasize the natural beauty of the Scandinavian birch veneer and in keeping with the original, all shells are given a silk matt lacquer finish by hand in several lacquering and polishing steps. All hardware on the drums is coated with ruthenium to complement the blonde color of the veneer and add a luxurious touch to the simple elegance of the original.

The 150th Anniversary SONORLITE Shell Sets are limited to 75 pieces worldwide. 25 of these will be produced in the "Heritage" configuration with authentic SONORLITE shell depths, while the remaining 50 have shallower, more modern shell depths.
